Statement of Case: This trial arises out of an injury suffered by Plaintiff Erin Stephany while under the care of Defendants Cara R. Leppellere, M.D., and Dubuque Obstetrics & Gynecology, P.C. In this trial, Plaintiff Erin Stephany alleges Defendants Cara R. Leppellere, M.D. and Dubuque Obstetrics & Gynecology, P.C., were negligent in the care and treatment of Plaintiff Erin Stephany during surgery on March 15, 2016. As a result of this alleged negligence, Plaintiff Erin Stephany’s iliac artery was lacerated, and she suffered damages. Plaintiff Erin Stephany seeks compensation for damages that she suffered as a result of her injuries. Defendants Cara R. Leppellere, M.D. and Dubuque Obstetrics & Gynecology, P.C. denies that they were negligent, denies causing damage to Plaintiff Erin Stephany, and denies the extent of Plaintiff Erin Stephany’s damages, if any. Statement of Case Defendant: Members of the Jury: This is a medical malpractice case. Plaintiff Erin Stephany has sued Dr. Cara Leppellere and her employer, Dubuque Obstetrics & Gynecology, P.C. Plaintiff alleges that Dr. Leppellere was negligent in her care and treatment of Plaintiff and as a result of this alleged negligence, Plaintiff suffered damages. Dr. Leppellere denies that she was negligent or that anything she did caused any damage.
