Statement of Case:
This is a civil rights case involving allegations of gender discrimination and retaliation in employment. Plaintiff Sandra Selden worked for Defendant Des Moines Area Community College or “DMACC” from September 23, 2013 to the present. Ms. Selden claims that Defendant has paid her less in wages because she is a woman and that it retaliated against her by denying her a promotion because she complained about the discrimination. Defendant DMACC denies that Ms. Selden’s gender made any difference in her compensation and denies that it retaliated against her.

If Ms. Selden’s allegations are true, then Defendant violated her civil rights, and you will be required to decide how much they must pay her in money damages. Ms. Selden claims damages for lost wages and benefits, emotional pain, suffering, mental anguish, and loss of enjoyment of life.

Statement of Case Defendant:
In this case, Plaintiff Sandra Selden alleges wage discrimination based on sex. She also alleges that she opposed wage discrimination and DMACC retaliated by screening her out of the interview pool for the position of Supervisor, Administrative Applications Support. Defendant DMACC denies these claims and further alleges that any difference in pay was based on a factor other than the Plaintiff’s sex.
